Challenge: Get your vintage inventory listed

Progress

Stare down that “death pile” of unlisted inventory and walk through our steps to get it public — and profitable

It’s time to shake off the procrastination and get your shop ready for the busiest season of the year!

We know staring at a mountain of unlisted inventory can be daunting. Whether you are a sporadic lister needing to build a daily habit, or a regular lister looking to refresh stale titles and cross-post to new platforms, we've got a simple set of steps for you.

Pick your track, queue up your favourite playlist, and get those items online and sold! Big thanks to Ash at Lemon’s Loot for all their help and advice outlining this challenge.

Why do this challenge?

Sometimes we need a little extra motivation to get things done — use this challenge as an opportunity (excuse?) to either post, update or switch things up with your listings this month on your marketplace(s) or website.

Get that death pile down to a dwindle! As Ash helpfully pointed out to me when we were chatting about this challenge, “If it’s not posted, it doesn’t sell. New items still have a cost for storage.”

The details

Begins: October 1

Ends: October 31 (if you need more time or want to come back to it later, that's fine!)

Challenges are self-led. I encourage you to post about your progress in the comments and cheer each other on!

What do I need to do?

To take part, pick ONE of the following two challenges:

Challenge Option 1: For the sporadic lister

Do the following:

1. Face the death pile! Don’t be afraid of it!

2. Decide which marketplace platform you are using for this challenge if you are on multiple. (Or maybe you need to upload to your website.) Stick to one platform for now to get a rhythm going!

3. Choose a realistic number for yourself to list per week for the rest of this month (we suggest the equivalent of one per day, though you can do it in batches).

4. Decide when you will post during the day/evening. Schedule it. Set a timer. Play some of your favourite music or put on a favourite movie. Call the thrift gods to smile upon you. Whatever you need to do to actually do it. You got this!

Challenge Option 2: For the regular lister

Choose ONE ore more of the following:

1. Revisit older listings. Replace your title and thumbnail image. From Ash: “It can give the item a fresh look. This is great for those who don't have new stock (me currently!) or want to streamline their look without completely redoing a listing.”

2. Cross-post. Choose a different platform than what you normally use. Don’t overthink it, just open up an account and start posting some of your slow-moving inventory.

3. Adjust your pricing. The market landscape has changed, and pricing needs to reflect.  Do some research on slow-moving items and make necessary adjustments.

4. Sort your listings. Add categories/folders to your shop. Gifts Under $30, Holiday, What’s New This Month, etc. are great ones.

5. Promote your listings. Choose at least three listings and share them on a new channel, i.e. Pinterest, Facebook buy-and-sell groups or Reddit. Repeat with more.
