Challenge: Set goals for your vintage shop

Progress

Get a blueprint for your best vintage business year yet

This resource outlines a self-led challenge designed to help shop owners clarify their direction and strategy for the new year.

It's time to translate abstract business aspirations into concrete action!

Why do this challenge?

The beginning of the year is a great time to refocus on what you want for your shop.

Goals do not have to be big and sweeping! They can be incremental. But intentionally setting a few can help you to actualize them throughout the year.

(If you haven’t checked out our SMART goals session with Carina from unVaulted Vintage, it has some helpful background on this! It's available to Champion members of The Vintage Seeker.)

The details

Begins: January 1

Ends: January 31

Challenges are self-led. I encourage you to post about your progress in the comments and cheer each other on!

What do I need to do?

1. Create a vision board (Champion members: see the relevant replay for inspiration), OR think about where you want your shop to be in 12 months from now and use this worksheet.

2. Spend an hour fleshing out your worksheet or your vision board — this is a low-pressure activity and you don’t need to spend tons of time on it. When turning your vision into a goal, make the goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Time-Bound (examples below).

3. Share your vision board, worksheet or goals in this space, either by leaving a comment below or starting a new post.

4. Execute on your goals.

Here's an example of a written goal:

Year Goal: Build an email list with 500 email addresses that are receiving a monthly shop update by Dec 31, 2024.

January goals:
1. Research on which platform I can send emails to my customers and followers and familiarize myself with anti-spam legislation by Jan. 31.
2. Create an email signup form on my website or as a standalone page by Jan. 31.

(February’s goals might be then to promote the signup form on social media or via your shop confirmation orders, and to send your first brief shop update to your list. And so on.)

Our member workshop Setting SMART Goals with Carina walked through how to set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound and how goals are an important guide as you run your business.

We've created two templates on setting SMART goals — one as a Google Sheet/Excel Spreadsheet and one as an editable Canva template. The info in each is the same but organized differently, so access via the program/format that you like using best!

One of Carina's tips is to print out the template and handwrite your goals.

Google Sheets/Excel SMART goals template

To use the Google Sheets template, click the link below. You'll be taken to a Google Sheets file where you will have viewing, not editing permissions.

In order to use the template and edit it in Google Sheets, you will need to have a Google Account and be signed in. Go to File > Make a copy to get an editable version that's saved to your own Google Drive folder.

If you want an Excel file, it's attached below. Or you can open the Google Sheets link, go to File > Download and you’ll be able to download an Excel file, PDF, etc.

You'll be taken to a Canva file (you'll need a free Canva account if you don't already have one). This file will automatically save as a copy into your own projects. From there, you can edit away!
