The Shop Secondhand Directory now has a buy-and-sell board

Progress

Connect with buyers, resellers and dealers directly for the collection you're downsizing, the estate you're clearing and more — no middleman required

What do you do when you’ve got a basement full of brass and no idea who wants it?

Or you’re trying to downsize your pottery collection and trying to find a vendor who might buy it feels daunting?

Or you inherited your grandma’s wardrobe and want to sell it but don’t know where to begin?

We get a version of this message quite often from all kinds of folks — someone clearing out a parent’s house and wanting to sell off some items, or someone who’s looking for something specific and has no idea where to start.

Or a dealer who is sitting on a lot of vintage clothing that doesn’t fit their niche but would be perfect for someone else’s. Or a market organizer who needs vendors for an upcoming show and wants to spread the word.

Until now, the answer we could offer was somewhat limited. We have a matching service, but it works better for general inquiries rather than big, varied lots or specific items.

The Shop Secondhand Directory was built to help people find secondhand businesses, and so we’re excited to add a classifieds section to help facilitate some of these types of requests that are specific to the vintage and secondhand sector.

What the classifieds section is for

If you have something to sell, something you’re looking for, space or equipment to rent, or vendor spots to fill, you can post it here.

Say you’re an estate executor with a houseful of mid-century furniture, artwork and a china cabinet nobody in the family wants. You don’t want to go through an estate sale company. You want to find dealers directly to give you a fair assessment and take it off your hands without the overhead. Post the items individually or as a lot in the classifieds under For Sale, or post in the Seeking section that you’re looking for a dealer to view your estate. The people who will see it are exactly who you’re looking for.

Or say you collect records. You’re looking for a dealer who knows what they’re looking at, who might be interested in all or part of your collection. Post a Seeking listing.

Or say you run a vintage shop and you’ve just acquired a lot of Victorian lace that isn’t really your thing, but you know someone out there might want it. Post it for sale.

If you organize markets, and you’ve got vendor spots to fill, don’t just rely on your social media. Post a Call for Vendors and reach people who are already in this world. The Shop Secondhand Directory is used by thousands of people every month.
