What does it take to keep a vintage business thriving when the market keeps shifting? The Vintage Seeker was a guest on an episode of reselling podcast Shop Talk to unpack the challenges and opportunities of selling secondhand in our current economy
What does it take for vintage sellers to adapt in today's shifting economy, and when is it better to hold steady or bow out?
Our current market reality was among many topics I discussed with Whitney & Nicole, vintage sellers and owners of Conard & Co. and Vintage Haven Shoppe, respectively, in a new episode of their reselling podcast Shop Talk.
"[Vintage selling] is so beyond, I think, what a lot of people realize — the physical and emotional labour of putting together a business is constant," says Whitney in the episode. "We constantly start over from scratch every time we have to find new inventory, every time we sell something, we have to go out and find it again."
We also talked about everything from the realities of connecting buyers with the small businesses that bring them beautiful vintage, to the challenges and opportunities currently facing the secondhand sector — including the tariffs that have affected both international vendors and U.S.-based sellers like Whitney and Nicole.
